Who is suitable for laser hair removal?
The Candela Gentlemax Pro allows us to treat most skin colours and types. Those who may not qualify for the treatment are those with grey, very light blonde or red hair. A consultation is advised to determine the course of treatments and if you qualify for this treatment.
How many treatments are recommended to see visible results?
If you are completely new to laser hair removal, then we recommend no less than 6 treatments to get you started. With 6 treatments you will see an approximate 60-80% reduction in hair growth. The results vary for each individual depending on the thickness and darkness of the hair, some patients will require up to 8-10 sessions to be happy with their results.
How often do I need to have a treatment?
We advise you to leave 4-8 weeks between your treatment times, depending on the area you are treating and the hair cycle. As the number of growing hairs begin to reduce, we may space out your treatments to ensure we always catch the hair in the correct stage of growth (anagen stage).
What hair type cannot be treated?
Sadly, blonde, white, grey and red hair do not respond to laser hair removal treatment. The laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair and these hair colours do not produce any pigment, so will not be effective.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
This is dependent on each individual and the area being treated. With Candela Gentlemax Pro, you will just feel a mild tingling sensation. The procedure is not painful as it is done with a cryogenic super-cooling spray to decrease sensitivity during the treatment. This, in turn, decreases the risk of developing hyperpigmentation, which you might experience from other machines.
Pre-laser hair removal care
Do not bleach or use depilatory cream for at least 4-6 weeks prior to your 1st treatment and stop using for the duration of the laser treatment.
No waxing, plucking or threading throughout the duration of your laser treatment.
Shaving is the only method of hair removal allowed during your treatment.
You must shave the treated area 24 hours before your laser treatment.
No lotions, oils or fake tan on the area on treatment day.
Avoid heavy sun exposure 2 weeks before your treatment.
Please inform your laser therapist of any tattoos when you begin your session.
Post-laser hair removal care
The treated area may be red, itchy or hot. This can last up to 7 days. Apply Aloe Vera to soothe the area.
Avoid touching or itching the area.
Avoid saunas, very hot baths/showers and steam rooms for 24 hours.
Avoid other treatments on the area such as injectables, chemical peels or microneedling for 2 weeks.
Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks after treatment.
