How to protect your skin from the sun?

Well, summer is here, and we can’t wait to go outside and enjoy the sunlight and the warmth of the day. And while it all seems so wonderful, you shouldn’t forget that spending too much time in the sun can really harm your skin.

While spending time outside can be great for boosting your vitamin D levels, the UV rays can be extremely harmful for the unprotected skin.

Here at Skin Innovation, we care about your health and skin protection. That is why we have prepared 10 tips for keeping your skin healthy and good-looking.

1. Don’t forget about the sunscreen

Sunscreen protection isn’t only for the beach. Actually, it is extremely important for your skin care, every day of the year, and especially during the summer.

Truth is, even clouds are not able to block UVA and UVB rays, so it is really important for you to use sun protection. Experts suggest you use at least SPF 30. Furthermore, they suggest you apply sunscreen every two hours, and if you are directly exposed to sun rays or water, you can repeat even more frequently.

Applying the proper sunscreen isn’t only about the beauty of your skin. It is also about your health. Protecting your skin will help you prevent wrinkles, dark spots, premature aging and cancer. That is why you shouldn’t underestimate the importance of sunscreen.

2. Moisturize

Good moisturizer is vital for the health and good-looking of your skin, especially in the summer. Choose the best formula, based on your skin type, or you can ask your dermatologist to help you with the choice.

Our advice is to search for a moisturizer with antioxidants, and vitamins A and C. Apply moisturizer often enough, and never forget to use one after a day on the beach. This way, your skin will look and feel healthier.

3. Hydration

While moisturizing on the outside is important, it is way more important to hydrate from the inside. Drinking enough liquids is important not only for your skin, but for the well-being of your whole body. In the summer, dehydration can be a huge problem, causing many indispositions.

The important thing to say here is that nothing can replace water in your menu. Drinks like sodas, and juice usually contain too much sugar and are not recommended for daily usage. Instead, include vegetables like cucumber and lettuce, and fruits like watermelons, melons and citrus fruits to keep your body cool from within and your skin healthy.

4. Avoid the strongest sun rays

The sun UV rays are strongest between 10 and 4 o’clock, during the whole year, not only in the summer. It is best for your skin and overall health if you try to avoid sun exposure during that time of the day. Of course, it sounds easier than it really is. That is why we suggest you seek shade whenever you can, always drink enough water and don’t forget about the sunscreen.

5. Cover up

Another great way to protect your sensitive skin from sun exposure are clothes. We are talking about light and comfortable clothes, made from breathing fabrics, for example cotton and linen. You can also find garments with a special UV protection factor.

Moreover, don’t forget to choose the right sunglasses, for protecting your eyes, as well as a hat, to limit your face exposure to the strong UV rays.

6. Treat sun damage

It would be great if you try to avoid sun damage in the first place. Of course, we know that it’s not always possible. If you somehow missed our advice and exposed your skin to the sun, don’t wait for it to heal by itself.

If you notice that your skin tan is uneven, the skin is drier, or you have sunburn from spending the day on the beach, find the best treatment and treat your skin as it deserves to be treated – with care.

7. Exfoliate (but not too much)

Exfoliation can be great for the skin. It helps you to get dry skin off, so that your skin looks and feels softer. Anyway, keep in mind that too much exfoliation is not good for the skin, especially during the summer, as your skin becomes way more sensitive to sunlight.

Leave the chemical peels and scrubs for the colder months, when your skin isn’t exposed to direct sun rays.

8. Antioxidants

Another valuable tip we can give you is to include antioxidants in your skin care routine, and in your diet. Choose a good antioxidant serum to prevent skin damages, to boost collagen, and to scavenge free radicals.

Antioxidants are also an important part of your diet. Consume more citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables, green tea, etc. This will not only help for your skin protection, but for the health of your whole body.

9. Facial treatments

A great way to keep your skin good-looking and healthy are facial treatments. Here at Skin Innovation we offer a wide variety of facial treatments great for detox, hydration, and exfoliation.

Regular skin treatments are a great way to keep your skin healthy and good-looking, during the hottest months of the year. Of course, facials can be done at any time of the year.

10. Custom skin care

People have different skin types, and that is why we can’t give you an all-purpose tip for skin care. You have your own unique needs, and so does your skin. So, the most important advice we can give you is to find the right skincare routine or you.
