How to choose the right products for your skin care routine
There isn’t anyone who doesn’t want to enjoy healthy and perfectly looking skin. Today, we can find tons of different products, promising great results for everyone. Unfortunately, if you are not a dermatologist or some chemistry expert, it isn’t easy to understand much of the ingredients list on skincare products. Of course, it might seem like a good choice to follow the hype and buy popular products, just because someone else does.
Although it is hard to find a skincare product that works best for you, without trying it first, there are some tips you can follow. That way you won’t end up spending lots of money for products that are not good for you or can even be bad for the appearance of your skin.
Here are 5 things to do, if you want to find the best skincare products for you:
1. Know your skin type
First thing to know when choosing skin care products is determining your skin type. There are different skin classifications, but from a cosmetic point of view it can be:
Normal skin
Normal skin has a balanced pH levels and sebum production. You can identify its smooth texture, fine pores and lack of sensitivity.
Of course, taking care of a normal skin is easy. What you need to do is stay hydrated, moisturize, use sunscreen and keep the skin as clean, as possible
Sensitive skin
Sensitive skin gets irritated easily, it is usually prone to heat and redness. Sensitive skin gets oily in the summer and dry in the winter, it also often feels itchy and tight
To take care of your sensitive skin, we suggest you always do a patch test, to avoid bad skin reactions. Furthermore, you must be careful with your skincare routine and not use too many products. You can also choose products with soothing properties such as green tea, chamomile, etc. Hydration and moisturizers are part of every skin type care routine.
Dry skin
Lack of moisture in the skin leads to a dry appearance. This type of skin produces less oil and is more vulnerable to weather changes. It is flaky, rough and itchy and can be caused by genetics, cold weather or even aging.
To take care of dry skin, don’t forget to moisturize regularly, and drink enough water. Sunscreen is also a necessity for basically any skin type.
Oily skin
The excessive sebum production results in oily skin, which is mostly shiny and sweaty, and often suffering from acne, blackheads, etc.
Oily skin can be due to some hormonal changes, genetics, or climate changes. Too much exfoliation can also lead to an oily skin.
Again, to take care of an oily skin, hydration is important. You must also be careful with the makeup and other products you use. Look for non-comedogenic products, and gentle cleansers.
Combination skin
Combination skin type is a mixture of oily and dry skin. Usually you can identify it with an oily T-zone and dry cheeks. Genetics, climate changes, and wrong products are usually among the most common reasons for this skin type.
To take care of a combination skin type, we suggest you use cleanser, and exfoliate your skin, but not every day. Of course, you should be careful with exfoliation, as it can also damage your skin.
2. Carefully selected ingredients
Once you recognize your skin type, do research to see what are the best and the worst ingredients you can use.
Surely, on the Internet you can find much different advice about the best skincare products and ingredients, such as Retinol, Argan, Aloe, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, Green Tea, etc.
Truth is, not every natural product is good for you and your skin type. Some of them can even cause allergic reactions. That is why you must always make a patch test, before you try new products. Of course, the best thing you can do is go to an expert, who can make a skin analysis and give you the best recommendation.
3. Don’t always trust the hype
Just because a product is popular, doesn’t mean it is good for you. As we already explained, different skin types require different skincare products. So, if you see your favorite influencer with perfect skin, because of the given product, keep in mind that they can have a different skin type in the first place.
Again, check the ingredients and see if they can work for you, before you invest your money in expensive and ineffective products.
4. Try to cut off unhealthy habits
Great skin appearance doesn’t always come from the outside. It does matter how you take care of yourself. Smoking, eating junk and greasy food, not getting enough sleep, and not drinking enough water, and lack of vitamins are only a small part of the bad habits that could lead to unhealthy skin appearance. Make sure you cut them off (or at least some of them), if you want a great looking skin, without the need of too many products or make up.
5. Trust a specialist
There are many sources where you can get information about good skin care routines and products. However, the best thing you can do for yourself and your skin, is go to an expert. That way you can be sure that you are taking the best care, and using the most adequate products for your skin type.
